"Reputational inconvenience" is the single reason leadership in well known missional organizations in the US refuse to repent of imposing DEI training on their missionaries. God's truth marches on without them. Unless they repent, a shameful, nameless 'death in the wilderness' awaits them. Those are very slow deaths and their reputations will die with them.
That sounds about right. The challenge of reputational safeguarding afflicts Christian institutions in all sorts of ways, even with what may appear to be sensible-sounding intentions.
The field of battle can sometimes change very quickly, and before they know it, faithful organisations can find themselves desperate to maintain and retain what they have rather than continuing to pursue faithfulness in light of the new challenges. Seeking to save their reputations, they end up losing them, just as Jesus warned about saving/losing our lives for his sake.
