Why Liberals Love Abortion
The Implications of a Truthless and Loveless Ideology
What leads someone to scrawl “Stand here if you love abortions” on the side of a church wall?
The tireless pro-life heroine, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, who has been arrested several times for praying silently within the 150m abortion clinic “buffer zone,” recently posted on X:
“My volunteers now stand over 150 mtrs from the abortion centre, outside an RC church. We now find graffiti scribbled on the church walls ‘Stand here if you love abortions’ ‘I ❤️ abortions’. This was never about us being outside an abortion centre - the intolerance is much deeper.”
Can you imagine the uproar if Christians said: “If you’re pro-abortion you’re not allowed to stand within 150 metres of a church”?
If we were following what appear to be the principles of the secular liberalism of our time, we ought to be allowed to do that because we see pro-abortion views as offensive. And we do. If you believe that unborn children are indeed human beings, then any opinion in favour of aborting such children ought to be seen as offensive—and abominably so. How could it not?
And yet if we told the pro-abortionists that they are not allowed to stand within 150m of our churches, there would indeed be uproar. Why? Because however much liberalism claims to value “equality”, it never plays fair. It’s a con. Liberalism doesn’t value consistency with the truth; it values pragmatism; it values whatever “works” to achieve its preconceived ideological desires. If the higher value is the “reproductive freedom” of the woman, then the freedom of the unborn child to not be killed in the womb is of no interest to their moral framework.
Christianity, however, really does care about people, and really does care about the truth. That’s why we don’t set up buffer zones outside our churches. We don’t try to keep people away from us when they disagree reasonably. Why? Because we want them to hear and know the truth, even if it costs us to tell them.
This is a great contrast with secular liberalism. When you don’t value God and His Word, you will ultimately cease to value consistency with the truth. And when you cease to truly value the truth, you will ultimately cease to value people. How could you not? On what basis could you value them in any ultimate sense if there is no truth that transcends the material world?
However “compassionate” the secular liberal thinks they are, they must recognise that in following their ideology to its conclusion, they may one day find themselves scrawling graffiti onto the walls of a church in order to “take a stand” for the human right of a mother to kill her baby, and to refuse the right of any Christian to speak (or even pray) the truth in reply.
They will even tell themselves that in doing so, they are the ones standing for freedom, truth, and justice, despite having lost all sense for what those values truly mean. Other liberals will, of course, say: “Nonsense! We don’t love abortions. We simply recognise them as a sad necessity in difficult circumstances, but nonetheless an important freedom to protect.”
This, of course, is the nonsense. Such people have simply not admitted it yet. People come out to fight and protect for what they love, especially when what they love is threatened. This is precisely why pro-life activists seek to challenge the practice of abortion, because they want to fight for those hundreds of thousands of unborn children who are cruelly declassified as being sub-human in order to salve the consciences of those who kill them. Christians want to love and protect those babies. On the contrary, the pro-abortionists come out to fight for the protection of the slaughter house. And shockingly, those who support the protection of the slaughter house, one way or another, still comprise a majority of people in most western countries today, including most of Britain’s politicians.
The pro-abortionist is indeed fighting for what they love. What they love is the unchallenged freedom for people to do with their unborn children whatever they wish. This is precisely why the 150m buffer zone around abortion clinics exists: to protect the practice of abortion, to enshrine the sacred ritual of child sacrifice which props up the mirage of feminist “progress” in our culture.
This is the “progress” which encourages and enables mothers not to be motherly by nurturing their unborn children, but to kill their unborn children if such children are deemed an emotional burden, a career inconvenience, or simply, surplus to requirements.
The kind of mass delusion that thinks of abortion as “good,” and that thinks of protest (or prayer) against abortion as “bad”, is the fruit of secular liberalism. This is the terminal sickness of the mind from which our increasingly dystopian society must be healed. The only cure is Christ, the One who not only gave his own life for the world God so loved (John 3:16) but who said that not even the gates of Hell would prevail against His Church (Matt. 16:18).
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

Amen! Well said sir.
Thank-you. Well said. The Holy Spirit is being rejected in favor of convenience. “When I have a more convenient time I will send for you.”
